So you want to go into the field of teaching, and we certainly can’t argue against that one. Teaching is a great profession and one that affords you many opportunities to help students. In addition to that you will gain a rewarding career for the foreseeable future in a number of different educational institutions if you wish. The one thing that many people tend to overlook, however, is that education does not begin in college.

There are quite a few people out there who spend their high school years planning without realizing that they could in fact be getting ready for the future and even taking the necessary steps toward becoming what they want to be. This is true even for those who are undergoing home schooling, and to help clear this up, we’re first going to discuss what you need to be aiming for when you leave your homeschooling.

After Home Schooling – The Degree you Need to Pursue

Once you graduate from home schooling it all starts with obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Education along with a teaching certificate in your area. This can be a difficult degree/certification to obtain, so make sure that you are ready and willing to put significant time into it. That being said, before you finish high school, even home schooling, it would be a good idea for you to start looking into the subjects that will be required for you to advance.

Getting a Head Start in your Home Schooling

Depending upon the level of school that you plan to teach once you graduate from your chosen program you will need to make sure that you take some of the more basic, highly teachable courses including:

  • English
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematics

These are obviously the basic courses available in school and they are required by most schools, but you can take your studies to the next level by making sure that you are looking into the advanced courses. For example instead of simply taking mathematics during your home schooling course, you might want to think about looking into Algebra I or even Algebra II. You could also up the ante by studying advanced English along with World History or even Politics. As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider, even when you are in high school.

Learn it All at Home

high schoolTo take your schooling to the next level, it would be a good idea to try learning at home rather than attempting to attend a traditional high school. The internet has made it much easier than ever before to learn at home so long as you have a decent internet connection and the ability to maintain discipline in an environment where you are not directly engaged 24/7.

There are plenty of benefits to taking online home school. First of all, you won’t be in a highly distracting  environment. Secondly, you will be able to learn at your own pace, which means you can take a break whenever you wish and complete your course work on your own time. It’s a much easier way to learn and it is definitely the preferred method for many people. In addition to that there are many who suffer from learning disabilities and therefore find it difficult to learn in a traditional environment while they positively thrive in a home school environment.

Quite frankly, we are of the opinion that no child should be left behind, and forcing everyone to attend public schools is a great way to abandon that ideal. If you have a decent internet connection and hardware that can keep up, online schooling might just be the best idea that you’ve ever come across. Now would be a great time to start looking into the different home school possibilities, choosing your courses, and getting ready to launch yourself into a brand new career once you’re finished. There are a ton of possibilities out there for students and it won’t be long before you’re well on your way. Let us help you.
